Striking Landscapes
Discover an island of contrasts where black lava embraces unique vineyards and underground oases, creating a lunar landscape that feels out of this world. A land that challenges what you know and invites you to explore it slowly, with your eyes open and without rushing.
A floor steeped in history
The first time you set foot on Lanzarote, the ground sounds different. A dry crunch beneath your feet that you have never heard before. It is lapilli, the volcanic ash that covers the island. And in that moment, without anyone having to explain it to you, you understand that you are somewhere different.
That lapilli has a story. Between 1730 and 1736, the volcanoes of Timanfaya were active for six uninterrupted years, covering a third of the island with lava and ash. What for many would have been the end was, for Lanzarote, the beginning of something unique.
Because that same ash that devastated entire fields eventually became the foundation of an agricultural system that exists nowhere else in the world. In La Geria, farmers learnt to dig holes down to the fertile soil, plant vines and protect them with volcanic stone walls. And, without intending to, they created one of the most photographed landscapes on the planet.
What Lies Beneath the Surface
Beneath the surface, moving lava left behind a network of tunnels and caves that runs deep through the island. Inside Jameos del Agua, the air changes: it becomes cool, humid, with that particular smell of wet stone that only exists underground. The light is dim. The seawater lies still, almost black. And in the depths, if you look closely, something moves.
An Island of Many Colours
Outside, the colours tell another story. Because Lanzarote is not only black. The deep red of the Fire Mountains, the impossible green of the lagoon at El Golfo, the white of the Janubio salt flats, the ochre of the craters as the sun sets. Every corner has its own tone, and hardly any of them are what you imagine before you arrive.
From Plus Fariones, all of that Lanzarote is within reach. The north with its viewpoints over the Atlantic, the volcanic interior, the wild beaches of the south. Our team knows each of these corners and can help you find the ones that best match what you are looking for.
Some travellers pass through Lanzarote. Others truly discover it. Staying here is the best way to belong to the second group.
