Where art and architecturecome together to reflect the identity of Lanzarote.
At Plus Fariones, art is not a decorative element; it is part of our DNA. We have transformed our spaces into an open gallery that pays tribute to the identity of Lanzarote. We invite you to take a journey through our private collection, where iconic pieces by key figures of Canarian art engage in dialogue with the light and structure of our hotels.
Nicolás Laiz
Born in Lanzarote in 1975, this contemporary artist uses his work to reflect on how society and the economy construct the concepts of “nature” and “exoticism”. Representing Lanzarote’s current avant-garde, Nicolás Laiz brings a critical and modern perspective to our collection.
Presence in the collection: Laiz uses his projects to reflect on the concepts of “nature” and “exoticism”. By observing his pieces in our spaces, guests connect with the voice of an artist who explores the landscape from a cultural and contemporary perspective, consolidating Plus Fariones as a bridge between the island’s classical history and international contemporary art.
César Manrique
Born in Lanzarote in 1919, Manrique trained in Madrid and New York, where he was influenced by international avant-garde movements such as Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism.
The spirit of Lanzarote’s most universal artist permeates every corner of our design. Manrique taught us that aesthetics and ecology must go hand in hand.
Presence in the hotel: In our communal areas and gardens, you can appreciate the direct influence of his “art-nature” concept. The arrangement of volcanic rocks, the integration of native vegetation and the use of pristine white are a living tribute to his legacy, allowing the hotel to become an extension of the landscape he so passionately protected.
José Abad
Born in La Laguna in 1942, José Abad is a renowned contemporary sculptor and member of the Academy of Fine Arts. Although he works across disciplines such as jewellery and collage, he is best known for his monumental iron and bronze sculptures, characterised by a schematic and solid style.
José Abad’s work at Plus Fariones Suite Hotel is one of the most fascinating examples of artistic integration in the Canary Islands.
As you enter our lobby, you will encounter an imposing series of iron and bronze structures that run through the different levels of the building. This monumental piece not only blurs the boundaries between art and architecture, but also guides guests through the space, symbolising the solidity and geological structure of our land.
“Camino de la Geria” (1987)
Ildefonso Aguilar
Born in Salamanca in 1945 but deeply connected to Lanzarote, Ildefonso Aguilar is a multidisciplinary artist and member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
Aguilar’s work is essential to understanding the visual purity of Lanzarote. As a Fine Arts academic, his hand has helped guide the island’s aesthetic for decades.
Presence in the collection: His pieces displayed in the hotel stand out for their minimalist and textured style. Aguilar captures the essence of ash and lava on surfaces that invite silent contemplation. His works in our spaces act as abstract windows onto the volcanic geology that surrounds us.
